Oak

Miss Down, Mrs Button and Mrs Attree welcome you to take a look at all the wonderful learning happening in Oak Class! We are excited to learn lots of new things in Term 4.

Important information:

Forest School takes place every Monday, so the children will need clothes in school that can get dirty. This includes wellies for when we have particularly wet days! A reminder that children need to be wearing long sleeved items of clothing and trousers for Forest School. PE happens every Friday, so we ask that the children come into school on Friday mornings in their full PE kits.

Maths:

This term in Maths, Year 6 will be spending a lot of our time looking at decimals, which will lead us onto learning the link between fractions, decimals and percentages. We will initially be making sure our place value knowledge of decimals is secure, then we will be rounding and calculating with decimal numbers.

Year 5 will be consolidating their knowledge of fractions and then moving onto exploring decimal numbers (tenths and hundredths). We will be looking at how ten tenths make up a whole number and what a hundredth is worth.

A Collection of Printable Teaching Resources. Maths resources for schools including posters and worksheets

English:

For Writing this term, we will be writing for a variety of audiences and exploring different genres such as: a diary entry, a narrative, a balanced argument, a letter and a playscript. We will be using a variety of grammatical features within these pieces (including parenthesis, speech, commas for clauses and adverbials). Throughout the term, most of our writing will be linked to our WW2 history topic, which gives us lots of chance for emotive language and description.

Science:

For our Science learning this term, we will be completing our Forces unit and looking at water resistance and air resistance. We will be testing pulleys, levers and gears to see how much force is needed to operate them.

We will then be moving onto our Animals Including Humans topic, which will cover the human heart and the circulatory system.

History:

This term, we will be learning about World War 2. This will involve us exploring what life was like for people on the home front. We will be looking at evacuees and how life would have had to change for them. The children will be evaluating the causes of WW2 and linking this to their knowledge about the end of WW1. We will also be talking about the effects of the war on the whole of Europe, and specifically what Britain was like after the war.

RE:

Our Big Question this term in RE is: What is it like to be Jewish in Britain today? We will be exploring different Jewish celebrations and how these impact Jewish peoples' lives. Additionally, we will be learning about how Jewish people believe that God created the world for them and how they believe it is their responsibility to look after it.

PSHE:

The topic for PSHE this term is all about 'Healthy Me'. We will be looking at the effects of alcohol and tobacco. This means we will also be discussing and acting out what peer pressure may look like and the children will be thinking about why it's important for them to make their own decisions about their health and well-being.

Home Learning:

Seesaw is the platform we are using to engage with parents but also conduct home learning. Homework will be set every Friday and checked the following Thursday. There will be two tests set via Spelling Frame every week and TTRS should be accessed every week at home, as well as at school.
